Thy Tran
Master Craftsman
Thy Tran grew up next to her father’s woodworking shop, though as a kid she was only allowed to “look, not touch.” By the time she turned 21, she decided it was time to prove a point.

The cap glows. Not just underneath where the gill lines fan warm light outward, but through the wood itself. The entire dome lights up from within, turning the grain into a map of golden rivers and dark contour lines visible from across the room. The cap is turned thin enough for light to pass through the wood, transforming solid timber into a warm, amber lantern. Below, a two-tone live-edge log stem rises from a dark walnut disc, its pale heartwood and dark sapwood wrapping around knot holes that look like eyes watching the room.
Translucent Wood Cap
The cap is the centerpiece. It is turned from a single piece of carefully selected wood, thinned across its entire surface to 4-6mm. At this thickness, warm LED light passes through the grain, revealing the internal structure of the wood in glowing amber, golden, and honey tones. Cathedral grain arcs appear as flowing dark lines against a bright amber field. Knots glow with darker halos. The cap's rim is left slightly thicker for structural strength and to hold the hand-carved gill lines underneath. The gill carving adds a secondary ring of warm, directional light that fans outward and downward from the rim, complementing the diffused glow from the cap surface above.
Turning a cap this thin at this diameter is the most demanding woodworking challenge in the mushroom lamp collection. The wood must be defect-free, kiln-dried to exact moisture content, and turned slowly to avoid cracking. The rejection rate is high. Every finished cap is a piece that survived the lathe.
Two-Tone Live-Edge Log Stem
The stem is a natural log section with the live edge preserved, showing the transition between pale heartwood in the center and darker sapwood near the outer surface. The two tones wrap around the stem in organic patterns, with dark sapwood waves and pale heartwood sections shifting as you walk around the lamp. Knot holes and branch scars are left open and sealed, adding depth and character to the surface. The log is cleaned, kiln-dried, and finished with natural oil that deepens both tones.
Dark Walnut Disc Base
The base is a thick, turned disc of dark walnut that anchors the lamp and contrasts with the pale and golden tones above. The walnut grain shows flowing chocolate-brown lines with lighter streaks. The dark base grounds the lamp visually, preventing the lighter cap and stem from feeling weightless. A felt pad protects the floor.

Placement
Built for a living room beside an armchair or sofa, a master bedroom reading corner, a home library, or a large open-plan space where the glowing cap can be seen from multiple angles. The translucent cap creates a warm, room-filling ambient light when fully bright and a soft golden night glow at the lowest dimmer setting. Place near a window for daytime shelf display and evening lantern effect.
Care
Wipe the cap gently with a soft dry cloth. Reapply wood oil once a year using a light hand on the thinned cap. Dust the log stem with a dry brush. The translucent cap is structurally sealed but should be handled with care during cleaning. LED components need no maintenance. Avoid excessive moisture and direct sunlight, which may shift the wood tone over time.
Handcrafted by Vietnamese artisans. The translucent cap is turned on a lathe from a single selected piece of wood, thinned by hand to allow light transmission. The live-edge stem is selected for its two-tone contrast. Every gill line is carved individually. No molds. No CNC machines. No two lamps will ever look the same.

No two tables are ever the same
Every plank carries its own grain, color, and knots. These aren't flaws - they are time's signature, the fingerprint of a tree that lived for decades. When you touch a Ashdeco table, you're touching the years it stood through.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about our pieces, commissions, and care.
How long does shipping take?
In Vietnam: 3-5 days. International: 10-14 days. Larger pieces (tables, cabinets) may take longer due to custom crating. All shipments include tracking and insurance.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship worldwide. Shipping is calculated by weight + dimensions at checkout. You'll see the exact quote before paying.
How long does a commission take?
4-8 weeks depending on complexity. A 6-seater dining table takes ~6 weeks, a console cabinet ~4 weeks, a large sideboard ~8 weeks.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
50% deposit is required when you confirm sketches. The remaining 50% is due when the piece is finished, before shipping. Full refund within 48 hours of deposit if you change your mind.
How do I take care of my wood piece?
Wipe with a damp cloth — no chemicals. Apply wood oil 1-2 times per year (we include a starter bottle). Avoid direct sunlight and big humidity changes.
What if my piece develops cracks?
Wood expands and contracts with humidity — minor cracks are natural and part of the material. Major cracks within the first year: we fix free. After 1 year, we charge labor only.
Can I return a piece?
Ready-made pieces: 30-day returns (must arrive intact). Commissions: final sale (since they're custom-made for you). If anything arrives damaged, we'll repair or replace at no cost.
