Collection FAQ

Kitchen Countertops FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for this collection.

What are Ashdeco kitchen countertops?

Live edge solid wood slabs handcrafted to serve as kitchen island tops, bar tops, or countertop surfaces. Each slab is cut from a single piece of natural hardwood, preserving the organic outer contour of the tree. Designed to sit on top of existing cabinets, island bases, or custom frameworks.

What is a live edge kitchen countertop?

Preserves the natural outer edge of the tree trunk - organic curves, bark traces, character marks that factory-cut slabs remove. One or both sides follow the actual shape of the tree. No two slabs are identical.

What wood types?

Walnut (rich dark tones), teak (moisture and heat resistant - gold standard for kitchens), acacia (dramatic two-tone grain), oak (classic strength). All finished with food-safe, moisture-resistant sealant. Never butcher block laminate, MDF, or printed veneer.

How thick?

1.5"-2.5" - significantly thicker than standard factory countertops (0.75"-1.25"). Extra thickness = premium feel, greater strength, and ability to sand/refinish in the future.

What sizes?

Widths: 24"-36". Lengths: 48"-96". Each piece has unique dimensions following the natural slab shape. Custom sizing available - email support@ashdeco.com with your measurements.

Is solid wood suitable for kitchen countertops?

Yes. Warm to the touch (unlike cold stone), absorbs impact without cracking (unlike granite/marble), develops rich patina, and can be sanded/refinished. Lasts 20+ years with proper sealing. The most repairable countertop material available.

How to install?

Position slab on existing base, level, secure from underneath with L-brackets or screws through cabinet frame. For sink cutouts: mark template and have a pro make the cut. Licensed contractor recommended for plumbing.

Can I cut directly on it?

Use cutting boards - knives will scratch the finish over time. Advantage: if scratches happen, real wood can be lightly sanded and re-sealed - impossible with quartz, laminate, or stone.

Is the finish food-safe?

Yes. Finished with food-grade mineral oil, tung oil, or food-safe polyurethane. Safe for food contact. Reapply mineral oil or butcher block oil every 3-6 months.

How to care?

Wipe daily with damp cloth + mild dish soap, dry immediately. Trivets under hot pots. Cutting boards for prep. Clean acidic spills (lemon, vinegar, wine) promptly. Food-safe oil every 3-6 months. Light sand + re-seal every 1-2 years for fresh look.

Wood vs granite, quartz, marble?

Wood: warmer, absorbs impact, repairable, develops patina. Stone/quartz: harder, more heat-resistant but cracks under impact, can't be repaired. Marble: stains easily. Many kitchens combine both - wood island top + stone perimeter counters.

Ashdeco vs mass-produced?

Mass-produced = laminated butcher block (thin strips glued together) or MDF with printed surface. Ashdeco = single-piece live edge slabs, 1.5"-2.5" thick, handcrafted by Vietnamese artisans. Each preserves the unique grain and natural edge of the original tree. Pair with kitchen cabinets and wall floating shelves.
