Huan Ngo
Master Craftsman
Huan Ngo is the only man left in the workshop who still uses a hand saw for the very first cut - not because he doesn’t know how to use the machines, but because, as he puts it, “machines don’t know respect.”

Light Carved Out of Solid Driftwood
A tall column of solid driftwood stands beside the bed, carved open in two places where the wood flows apart and rejoins like a river splitting around stones. Through those openings, warm amber light pours out from inside the hollow core, washing across the wall, the duvet, and the books on the nightstand. A tapered linen shade on top catches the upward glow and spreads it into soft room light. The rest of this wooden floor lamp stays solid, thick, and closed, showing smooth flowing grain on the outside while hiding the light source within.
One Block. Carved by Hand. Nothing Added.
This driftwood floor lamp is not assembled from separate pieces. The entire body, from the wide base to the narrow neck beneath the shade, is carved from one block of solid driftwood by our artisans in Vietnam. No CNC. No factory assembly. No glued joints. The artisan begins with a cylinder roughly twice the diameter of the finished piece and removes material by hand until the flowing open form emerges. The two openings are shaped gradually with gouges and rasps, following the natural grain so wood fibers flow continuously around each opening. Each piece takes weeks.
No Two Will Ever Match
The outer face is sanded to a smooth satin finish that reveals the full depth of the grain: cathedral arches, flowing color bands from warm honey to deep walnut brown, and subtle mineral streaks. The inner faces of the openings show a slightly different tone and grain density, where the carving exposed wood buried deep inside the original block. No MDF core. No composite panels. No veneer. Solid driftwood throughout. Because every blank has different grain, the lamp you receive is one of a kind.
Three Layers of Light
The two openings sit at different heights and angles. The lower opening is wider and more horizontal, creating a broad wash of light that reaches the floor. The upper opening is taller and narrower, casting a vertical band up the wall. Together they create two distinct pools of warm amber that overlap and blend on surrounding surfaces.
A warm LED strip runs up the inside of the hollow core, hidden from direct view. The light reflects off the inner wood surfaces before exiting through the openings, softening and warming the color. A tapered linen shade on top provides downward and upward ambient light. The carved openings provide mid-height accent light. Three layers of illumination from one piece.
An inline dimmer on the cord controls everything together. At full brightness, this is a bedside reading lamp. Dimmed low, it becomes a warm night light that fills a bedroom corner with amber.
Where to Place This Wooden Floor Lamp
- Beside a bed as a reading light and night light in one
- Living room corners where you want sculptural warmth, not overhead glare
- Flanking a sofa or armchair as a matched pair
- Hotel lobbies, spas, or gallery spaces where the driftwood texture sets the mood
The Base
The base flares slightly wider than the body above, providing a stable footprint without a separate pedestal. The bottom is flat and felt-padded to protect floor surfaces. Every surface curves. No sharp corners, no straight edges anywhere on this standing light.
Care and Placement
- Dry indoor use only. Not recommended for bathrooms, covered porches, or spaces without climate control.
- Keep the linen shade away from direct sunlight to prevent uneven fading.
- Dust the carved openings with a soft brush or compressed air.

- Always set your furniture on a level surface to preserve its balance and structure.
Cleaning & Upkeep
- Regularly wipe down your furniture with a soft, dry, or slightly damp cloth.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals like bleach or ammonia, as these can ruin the finish and damage the wood.
Weight Capacity & Use
- Respect the recommended weight limit for each piece to ensure its durability.
- When moving furniture, lift it instead of dragging or pushing to prevent surface scratches or joint damage.
Preventing Mold & Mildew
- Quickly wipe up any spills to stop moisture from penetrating the wood.
- In areas with high humidity, use a dehumidifier to maintain an ideal moisture balance.

No two tables are ever the same
Every plank carries its own grain, color, and knots. These aren't flaws - they are time's signature, the fingerprint of a tree that lived for decades. When you touch a Ashdeco table, you're touching the years it stood through.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about our pieces, commissions, and care.
How long does shipping take?
In Vietnam: 3-5 days. International: 10-14 days. Larger pieces (tables, cabinets) may take longer due to custom crating. All shipments include tracking and insurance.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship worldwide. Shipping is calculated by weight + dimensions at checkout. You'll see the exact quote before paying.
How long does a commission take?
4-8 weeks depending on complexity. A 6-seater dining table takes ~6 weeks, a console cabinet ~4 weeks, a large sideboard ~8 weeks.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
50% deposit is required when you confirm sketches. The remaining 50% is due when the piece is finished, before shipping. Full refund within 48 hours of deposit if you change your mind.
How do I take care of my wood piece?
Wipe with a damp cloth — no chemicals. Apply wood oil 1-2 times per year (we include a starter bottle). Avoid direct sunlight and big humidity changes.
What if my piece develops cracks?
Wood expands and contracts with humidity — minor cracks are natural and part of the material. Major cracks within the first year: we fix free. After 1 year, we charge labor only.
Can I return a piece?
Ready-made pieces: 30-day returns (must arrive intact). Commissions: final sale (since they're custom-made for you). If anything arrives damaged, we'll repair or replace at no cost.
