Nightstand Design

1. Why a Solid Wood Nightstand Changes Your Bedroom

A nightstand is the one piece of furniture you interact with every single day-first thing in the morning and last thing at night. It holds your phone, your book, your water, your lamp. Something that personal shouldn't be made of particle board with a sticker pretending to be wood grain.

a. Built to Last Decades, Not Months

Ashdeco nightstands are handcrafted from solid hardwood - acacia, walnut, teak, and reclaimed wood - by Vietnamese artisans who shape each piece by hand. No MDF, no veneer, no flat-pack assembly. These are furniture pieces built the way nightstands used to be built: from real wood, with real joinery, meant to last 20+ years.

b. Every Piece Is One-of-a-Kind

Because our artisans work with natural wood - including live edge slabs and hand-sculpted driftwood branches - no two nightstands look exactly alike. The grain pattern, the edge profile, the subtle color variations: that's not a defect, it's proof that a human made it.

c. Style That Works in Any Bedroom

Solid wood live edge nightstand with open shelves, decor vases, and natural lightWhether your bedroom leans modern, rustic, farmhouse, or boho, solid wood adapts. A nightstand with clean lines and a natural finish works in a minimalist room. A driftwood tree branch nightstand becomes a statement piece in an eclectic space. The material is versatile-it's the design details that set the tone.

2. Nightstand Styles We Offer

Minimalist bedroom corner with wooden nightstand, lit candles, green plant in white pot, and white bed linensa. Rustic Farmhouse Nightstands

Classic bedside tables with drawers, reclaimed wood texture, and visible grain. These pair naturally with linen bedding, neutral walls, and warm lighting. The built-in drawer keeps essentials organized and out of sight-charger cables, sleep masks, reading glasses.

b. Driftwood & Tree Branch Nightstands

Our most distinctive pieces. Artisans sculpt solid wood into organic tree branch forms with open shelving - functional art that doubles as a bedside table. These nightstands bring a natural, sculptural element to the bedroom that no mass-produced furniture can replicate.

c. Live Edge Nightstands

The natural outer edge of the wood slab is preserved, creating an organic silhouette where the raw wood meets polished surfaces. Each live edge nightstand showcases the tree's original shape - perfect for modern rustic and mid-century bedrooms.

d. Modern Carved Nightstands

Hand-carved details - wavy drawer fronts, sculptural legs, geometric patterns - add visual interest without clutter. These pieces bridge the gap between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary bedroom design.

e. Rattan & Solid Wood Nightstands

Solid wood frames with woven rattan panels bring a coastal, bohemian warmth to the bedroom. Lightweight in appearance but built on the same solid wood foundation as every Ashdeco piece.

3. How to Choose the Right Nightstand Size

The wrong nightstand height makes reaching your phone at 2 AM an awkward fumble. The wrong width either crowds the bedroom or looks lost next to a king bed. Here's how to get it right:

• Height: The top of your nightstand should be within 2"-4" of your mattress top. Most mattresses sit 24"-28" off the floor, so a nightstand of 24"-28" works for most setups.
• Width: 18"-24" for twin and full beds. 22"-28" for queen and king. Leave at least 4" between the nightstand edge and the bed frame.
• Depth: 14"-18" is standard. Go narrower (12"-14") in tight spaces.
• Clearance: Minimum 24" walkway between the nightstand and the nearest wall or furniture.

4. What to Put on a Nightstand (and What to Leave Off)

A cluttered nightstand ruins the calming bedroom vibe you're trying to create. Rule: five items or fewer.

• Essential: A lamp (warm light), your current book, water glass, phone charger routed behind the nightstand.
• Nice to have: A small plant (pothos, succulent), a single framed photo, a candle.
• Keep in the drawer: Sleep mask, earplugs, lip balm, charger cables, medication.
• Remove entirely: Stacks of old mail, work documents, more than one book at a time.

5. Nightstand vs. Bedside Table vs. Night Table - Is There a Difference?

Curved natural wood side table with green fern in black vase and lit candle in cozy bedroom• Nightstand: Typically includes at least one drawer or cabinet for storage. The most functional option.
• Bedside table: A broader term - can be any small table beside the bed, including open-shelf designs, stools, or even a floating shelf for bedroom mounted at mattress height.
• Night table: Same as nightstand - just a regional variation. More common in Canadian and British English.

At Ashdeco, our collection includes all three types-from drawer-equipped farmhouse nightstands to open-shelf driftwood bedside tables.

6. Pairing Nightstands with Other Bedroom Furniture

• Match the wood tone, not the exact style: A walnut nightstand with a walnut bed frame creates cohesion, even if the styles differ.
• Pair with floating shelves: Mount a bedroom floating shelf above each nightstand for extra display space.
• Add a bookshelf: A tree bookshelf for bedroom on a nearby wall complements driftwood and tree branch nightstands beautifully.
• One or two? Two matching = symmetry. One nightstand + one floating shelf on the other side = relaxed and saves floor space.
