1. Why Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets Outlast Everything Else

Your kitchen is the hardest-working room in the house - heat, steam, water splashes, cooking oils, and daily wear that no other room comes close to matching. The cabinets need to handle all of it without peeling, warping, or swelling at the edges like laminate and thermofoil do within a few years.

a. Real Wood in a Real Kitchen

Ashdeco kitchen cabinets are handcrafted from solid hardwood - reclaimed chestnut, walnut, teak, acacia, and oak - finished with food-safe, moisture-resistant sealant. Teak has been used in boat-building for centuries because its natural oils repel water and resist rot. That same durability translates directly to a kitchen environment.

b. Handcrafted by Vietnamese Artisans

Every cabinet is built by hand - real mortise-and-tenon joinery, hand-sanded surfaces, and live edge details. Our artisans shape each piece to match the natural character of the wood. Your kitchen cabinet has grain patterns, edge profiles, and color tones unique to that specific piece.

c. No MDF, No Particle Board, No Laminate

Most kitchen cabinets use MDF or particle board with thin veneer or thermofoil wrap. These swell with moisture, delaminate near the stove, and can't be refinished. Solid wood can be sanded, refinished, and restored multiple times over a 30+ year lifespan.

2. Kitchen Cabinet Styles We Offer

a. Floating Kitchen Cabinets

Wall-mounted with no legs or base. Live edge wood doors make each unit functional art. Solid wood shelves inside for dishes, spices, glasses. Frees up counter space, kitchen feels more open.

b. Solid Wood Wall Cabinets

Minimalist hanging shelf cabinets with enclosed storage. Clean lines, smooth wood surfaces, simple hardware. Works as upper cabinet or handcrafted accent piece alongside standard cabinetry.

c. Kitchen Islands

3. Choosing the Right Kitchen Cabinet Size

a. Wall Cabinets & Floating Cabinets

• Mount 18" above countertop (standard - easy reach, no head bumps)
• Cabinet height: 12"-18" single, 24"-36" tall units
• Width: 12"-36" per unit (single for spices, wider for dishes)
• Depth: 12"-14" standard

b. Kitchen Islands

• Height: 36" (counter, regular chairs) or 42" (bar, bar stools)
• Width: 40"-60", allow 36"-48" clearance on all sides
• Depth: 24"-30" (prep on one side, seating on the other)

4. Where to Use Kitchen Cabinets & Islands

• Above the counter: Floating or wall cabinets for dishes, glasses, spices. Live edge floating cabinet = kitchen focal point.
• Open shelving alternative: Wall cabinets offer natural wood exterior with protected interior storage - vs open floating shelves for kitchen.
• Kitchen island - center of room: Prep surface + storage + seating. Room divider in open-plan kitchen/living room.
• Pantry area: Wall cabinets + floating shelves = organized pantry wall without full renovation.
• Bar area: Kitchen island + bar stools = casual serving bar. Pair with bar floating shelves on wall behind for glassware + bottles.

5. Solid Wood vs. Other Kitchen Cabinet Materials

• Solid wood (Ashdeco): Most durable long-term. Handles moisture, heat, daily wear. Refinishable. 30+ year lifespan. Higher upfront, lowest cost per year.
• MDF with thermofoil: Budget upfront. Swells near dishwashers/sinks. Peels near stoves. Cannot refinish. 5-10 year lifespan.

• Plywood with veneer: Better than MDF, but thin veneer limits refinishing to 1-2x max. Edges vulnerable to moisture.
• Laminate/melamine: Water-resistant surface but particle board core swells if laminate chips or edge seal breaks. Common failure: around sink and dishwasher.

For the rest of your kitchen, complement with floating shelves for kitchen - open storage for items you reach for every day.

6. Care and Maintenance

• Daily: Wipe down with damp cloth after cooking. Cabinets near stove collect grease + steam - quick daily wipe prevents buildup.
• Weekly: Mild dish soap + warm water. Dry immediately. No abrasive cleaners, bleach, or ammonia.
• Every 6-12 months: Food-safe wood oil or wax. Extra attention near sink and stove.
• Ventilation: Run range hood while cooking. Proper ventilation reduces moisture + grease exposure.
• Kitchen islands: Use a cutting board on top. Wood handles direct food prep, but board prevents knife marks + easier cleanup.
