Everything you need to know
Detailed information about this piece — tap a section to expand.
These bookends are shaped like actual mushrooms, not the flat silhouette cutouts you find everywhere else. Each one is a three-dimensional sculpture carved from solid walnut, with a domed cap, a naturally curved stem, and radiating gill lines carved into the underside of every cap.
They sell as a matched pair. The two pieces mirror each other so books sit centered between them, held firmly by the weight of the solid wood base.
What you will notice first
The gill detail. Most mushroom bookends on the market are printed graphics glued to a flat board, or small resin shapes that weigh almost nothing. These are hand-carved from walnut blocks by our artisans in Vietnam, and the gills underneath each cap catch light differently throughout the day. It is the kind of detail you keep noticing months after buying them.
The stems are not straight cylinders. They taper and curve the way mushrooms actually grow, with visible wood grain and occasional natural knots running through them. No two pairs look identical.
How they work
Each bookend has a solid L-shaped walnut base that provides the weight and stability to hold books upright. The mushroom sculpture sits on top of the vertical part of the L, so the flat base slides under your books while the mushroom rises above the shelf line. No tipping, no sliding. Heavy enough to support a full row of hardcovers without any additional anchoring.

Material and finish
Solid walnut with a satin oil finish. The warm brown tones deepen slightly over time as walnut naturally darkens with age and light exposure. Smooth, rounded edges on every surface. Non-slip felt pads on the bottom protect your shelves from scratches.
Where they work
Bookshelves, obviously. But people also use them on mantels, desks, console tables, and nursery shelves. The mushroom shape fits right into cottagecore, woodland, and nature-themed rooms without looking like a novelty item. They look like they belong there because they are real wood sculptures first and bookends second.
Gift-ready
Each pair ships in protective packaging. Popular for housewarmings, birthdays, and book lovers who already own every reading accessory except the one that actually looks good on a shelf.
Every pair is carved individually. The grain is different. The knots land in different places. That is not a flaw. That is the whole reason to buy handmade over factory-stamped.
Furniture Placement
- Position your furniture away from direct sunlight, or use blinds or curtains to reduce sun exposure.
- Always set your furniture on a level surface to preserve its balance and structure.
Cleaning & Upkeep
- Regularly wipe down your furniture with a soft, dry, or slightly damp cloth.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals like bleach or ammonia, as these can ruin the finish and damage the wood.
Weight Capacity & Use
- Respect the recommended weight limit for each piece to ensure its durability.
- When moving furniture, lift it instead of dragging or pushing to prevent surface scratches or joint damage.
Preventing Mold & Mildew
- Quickly wipe up any spills to stop moisture from penetrating the wood.
- In areas with high humidity, use a dehumidifier to maintain an ideal moisture balance.

No two tables are ever the same
Every plank carries its own grain, color, and knots. These aren't flaws - they are time's signature, the fingerprint of a tree that lived for decades. When you touch a Ashdeco table, you're touching the years it stood through.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about our pieces, commissions, and care.
How long does shipping take?
In Vietnam: 3-5 days. International: 10-14 days. Larger pieces (tables, cabinets) may take longer due to custom crating. All shipments include tracking and insurance.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship worldwide. Shipping is calculated by weight + dimensions at checkout. You'll see the exact quote before paying.
How long does a commission take?
4-8 weeks depending on complexity. A 6-seater dining table takes ~6 weeks, a console cabinet ~4 weeks, a large sideboard ~8 weeks.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
50% deposit is required when you confirm sketches. The remaining 50% is due when the piece is finished, before shipping. Full refund within 48 hours of deposit if you change your mind.
How do I take care of my wood piece?
Wipe with a damp cloth — no chemicals. Apply wood oil 1-2 times per year (we include a starter bottle). Avoid direct sunlight and big humidity changes.
What if my piece develops cracks?
Wood expands and contracts with humidity — minor cracks are natural and part of the material. Major cracks within the first year: we fix free. After 1 year, we charge labor only.
Can I return a piece?
Ready-made pieces: 30-day returns (must arrive intact). Commissions: final sale (since they're custom-made for you). If anything arrives damaged, we'll repair or replace at no cost.
