WORKSHOP TRUTH: Sisal choice matters
The Ashdeco standard: We trialed sisal at 6 mm, 8 mm and 10 mm thicknesses. 8 mm provided the best balance of bite and longevity; 6 mm frayed faster, 10 mm felt rigid and less pleasant to claws. Fix: use 8 mm sisal for main scratch columns and reserve 10 mm for heavy wear zones.
DESIGN IMPLICATIONS
Perch size: large breeds need 40–50 cm diameter.
Platform depth & curve: gentle concave shape reduces sliding and supports the spine.
